“Happiness is homemade bread.” -Unknown
I am by no means a professional bread maker, but I do love some homemade bread kneaded into this beautiful, crazy life. And I am not going to gatekeep, so here are two easy bread recipes (and some tips) you can impress your family with.
Before we get started, let’s talk about the key ingredients that you’ll need:
- Active Dry Yeast
- Flour
- Sugar
- Salt
- Butter
- Eggs
- Water
These ingredients are pretty standard for most quick bread recipes that you make at home. The best part? You don’t need a bread maker or stand mixer; although they’re nice to have, kneading by hand is a good alternative.
Homemade Hamburger Buns by your homebased mom

This is one of my favorite recipes because it’s simple, takes about 20 minutes, and the buns keep well in the fridge once they are baked. They’re also wonderfully versatile, making them a must in my kitchen. The best part about making your own buns is that they are customizable. I’ve added fresh jalapeño and cheddar cheese right into the dough before my final knead, and they come out amazing.
Pro Tip:
This recipe can make anywhere from 6 to 12 buns, depending on how long you let them proof. If you let them sit on the counter, covered, for about 30 minutes before baking, the yeast has more time to do its thing, making the dough light, fluffy, and bigger buns. However, the beauty of this recipe is that you can put them in the oven almost right away. I have done both.
Breadsticks by deliciouslybold

TikTok may be a chaotically controversial place, but it’s one of the best places to find recipes because you can see every step in real time. That is how I stumbled across this breadstick recipe that has quickly become a family favorite. And they make amazing gifts as well!
There are two things I love about this recipe. The first is the fact that a little goes a long way. You can get about 30+ breadsticks from one batch. Secondly, it is how modifiable they are. You can go the savory route with garlic and fresh herbs, or you can go sweet and coat them in cinnamon sugar. Either way, don’t forget the butter!
