Blue, White, and Crimson

“The way to right wrongs is to turn the light of truth upon them.” ~ Ida B Wells

Another one shot dead today. They came in the deepest part of the night, pulling children and parents out of their homes like the boogeyman. Horrified screams ripped neighbors from their beds to flood the streets they once drove up and down every single day, waving at each other and occasionally asking to use their oven. It was one of the quiet places, or it was supposed to be. No place is really safe like that. Unless you sold your soul.

Death was always lurking. It happened so often we became desensitized, maybe even captivated. As the bullets fly out, the bloodlust reckons.

On the news they said they deserved it.

The repetitive 15 second clip exposing the truth as he aimed the barrel of his gun and popped them open. And the people who once screamed the loudest about protection from the tyrannical, stand quiet in their cowardice, enthralled in their enchantment.

The government permitted it with faces covered.

A woman appeared on screen dressed in all white, her blond hair pulled up into a halo. She was made to look holy… righteous in her anger. The cross, embedded in blood and polished white, burned across her neck. She smiled while tears escaped her eyes. Lips stained crimson from her lies. They bred her to be clever… charming even, and that she very much was.

Meanwhile they gave hope for better lives. Promised them protection and freedom while they dressed them up and paraded them around like show ponies, then sent them off to war. When they came back, some were dead and some were torn.

We must serve and protect.

…but who protects us…

I guess that’s our generation’s moral calamity. To fight the sins that soaked into the soil from our fathers. Slaves to the system that sits on others while we watch as the leaders of the free world gamble in airplanes and peace prizes. What they trade in money costs us in lives.

With peace,

Shay
