Love Potion: A Meditative Bath Recipe

“There is no remedy for love but to love more.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

I cannot believe it is already Valentine’s Day. It felt like January just came and went and now we are already halfway through the month of February. There is seemingly not enough time between the holiday season and now. Especially for my wallet… and the stores know I am a gift giving sucker.

… But what I have learned. Giving doesn’t have to sit within the confines of consumption or expensive things. Valentine’s Day is about the heart, so your gift should come from that place too. Everyone knows a homemade gift is always better anyway.

One of the best homemade gifts is bath salts. Like the ones we are going to be making today. This project is incredibly easy… and even better, it’s easy on my bank account. Of course you can go to the store and buy premade scented Epsom salt but where is the fun in that when you can make more than one scent with only one bag… maybe even add your favorite flower.

What you’ll need:

💗4-5 pounds unscented Epsom Salt – You can get this at your local grocery store for around $4, off brand is perfectly fine.

💗Coconut oil – you can use any lightly scented oil that you want, I just prefer coconut oil because I use it a lot in my skin care and it smells good.

💗Edible Rose Petals – it is important that you get skin safe rose petals. These can be found in rose tea or you can order them online. A little goes a long way with this.

💗Rose oil – this is optional but can be found online. If you want the rose oil without having to buy rose essential oil just simmer the rose petals with the coconut oil for a few minutes, then let it cool. You will have something similar.

💗Glass Jar w/ a lid – I personally collect pasta sauce and jam jars and that is what I used here. Occasionally, I will pick some up at the dollar store but this project is about being creative and using the things at home.

Ingredient List:

  • 4-5 pounds unscented Epsom salt
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup Food Grade Rose Petals
  • Rose Essential Oil
  • Glass Jar

Instructions:

  1. You will need a large bowl or glass jar. Mix Epsom salt and rose petals.
  2. Once the dry ingredients have been mixed, add the melted coconut oil and Rose essential oil. This last part is a personal preference. Add as much or as little of the rose oil as you want.
  3. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Lastly, transfer to your jars as needed, decorate and seal.

Personally, I put a small charm with all my jars. Just a little something to say in your head while you meditate in your soak. For this I did something along the lines of my heart is full, my mind is happy, I am full of love (the key: the cornier the better 😉), then I attached it to the jar, along with a stone and a candle. This isn’t necessary just an option.

Gift them to your neighbors, friends, or maybe even your lover. 💘

Happy Valentine’s Day my beautiful readers. I hope your bath salts make someone happy. Let me know what you think.

XOXO,

Shay
